First South African Boating Conference highlights new superyacht frontiers

Madagascar and the Indian Ocean will be highlighted as the next superyacht destinations at the forthcoming first African Boating Conference.

The regions are emerging as the newest frontiers in luxury tourism and superyacht exploration with their potential under discussion at the conference by ambassadors Cyril Mahfahana of Madagascar Yacht Services and Christophe Caumes of Madascarenes luxury camp.

“Cyril and Christophe’s insights and vision align perfectly with the conference’s mission to open up new opportunities across the continent,” says conference marketing and development director Maryanne Edwards.

The combination of the conference and the trade show creates added value for delegates.

Cape Town International Boat Show

The conference will take place from October 21 – 22 2025 in Cape Town, followed by the revamped Cape Town International Boat Show, scheduled for October 24–26 at the V&A Waterfront.

The relaunch is being led by SABBEX (South African Boat Builders Export Council) and BlueCape, which for the 2025 edition are focusing on a ‘cost-only’ organisational model managed directly by the industry, in line with best practices already adopted at major international boat shows.

The objective is to revitalise Cape Town’s role as a regional boating hub and to provide tangible value to exhibitors and attendees.

Boat show relaunch

“The combination of the conference and the trade show creates added value for delegates, combining strategic leadership with a concrete showcase of products, services, and innovations,” the organisers state.

“The aim is to optimise travel costs, increase meeting opportunities, and offer a comprehensive experience in a single trip.”

The relaunch of the Cape Town Boat Show follows on from several editions marked by declining attendance.

Reference point for the region

“The increased activity in the South African nautical sector and the growing focus on local production — from shipbuilding to superyacht services — are helping to redefine the event’s role as a reference point for the region,” state the organisers.

“The 2025 edition aims to be a space for discussion and promotion for the entire supply chain: from boat and accessory manufacturers to technical and refit service providers, including companies involved in logistics, nautical tourism, and professional training.”

The first pan-African conference dedicated to the nautical industry, will bring together decision makers, institutional stakeholders, association representatives and supply chain operators to discuss the challenges and opportunities related to the development of the sector on the continent.
