The Yacht Brokers, Designers and Surveyors Association has awarded Russell Kelly, partner and head of LA Marine, for his commitment to the marine industry.
Russell, who has worked across both commercial shipping, leisure marine and superyacht sectors, now focuses more on the non-contentious side of LA Marine’s practice.
He joined Lester Aldridge in 2000 as a founding member of LA Marine and his experience has encompassed cases involving multiple injuries and deaths following an explosion in the pump room of a tanker, a long and technical dispute between the builders and the purchasers of three naval offshore patrol vessels and the prosecution of owners and operators of various ships, yachts and RIBs.
Russell has also handled many transactions for the sale and purchase of vessels of all sizes and values, a number of which have involved complicated ownership structures with completion taking place offshore.
Russell continues to advise on vessel sales and purchases, marine finance and new build and refit contracts and any disputes that may arise.
He also deals with regulatory matters including the investigation and prosecution of vessel owners and operators following breaches or alleged breaches of the Merchant Shipping Regulations, and with insurance claims and other disputes.
Russell is also part of LA Marine’s team advising port and marina operators. He is regularly invited to speak at industry events and is retained by trade bodies to advise on industry precedent documents.
