ARES Yachts’ 62-metre flagship sailing yacht SIMENA has received RINA RIG Gold certification for its ketch rig, becoming the largest sailing yacht certified under the classification society’s sailing-rig rules.
The certification covers design approval, the mast manufacturer’s workshop, mast stepping, sea trials and the rig booklet. RINA said the process confirmed compliance with its applicable requirements and the REG Yacht Code 2024.
SIMENA’s aluminium masts were stepped and tuned in Antalya under surveyor supervision in August 2025. Rig trials took place in the Gulf of Antalya from 28 January to 4 February 2026, using several sail configurations to assess behaviour under sailing conditions.
The main mast is 59.7 metres high and weighs about 12.9 tonnes, rising to 16.6 tonnes with furlers and rod rigging.
The 48.9-metre mizzen mast weighs approximately 6.2 tonnes. Doyle Sails supplied 1,588 square metres of upwind sail area, and the yacht has reached about 14 knots under favourable conditions.
Planning and collaboration
“SIMENA represents the culmination of years of engineering, planning and collaboration across multiple disciplines,” said Piraye Şahinkaya Orhun, yacht projects director at ARES Yachts.
“This certification is a significant milestone for ARES Yachts and a reflection of the dedication and expertise of everyone who contributed to bringing SIMENA to life.”
Alper Tek, head of Türkiye yachting and plan approval at RINA, added: “SIMENA’s rig is a significant example of how advanced engineering, innovative yacht construction techniques and rigorous verification processes can push the boundaries of modern sailing yacht design.”
The yacht was built by ARES Yachts in Antalya, with naval architecture and exterior design by Taka Yacht Design and interiors by Design Unlimited.
It has also received the 2026 Blue Wake Special Jury Award and a Four Star SEA Index rating verified by Lloyd’s Register.
