Seatrials begin for Van der Valk’s largest vessel to date

Van der Valk Shipyard has begun sea trials for MY Shine, the shipyard’s largest custom-built motor yacht.

The 39.92-metre aluminium yacht has entered her final phase of testing, where performance and onboard systems will be evaluated.

Following the successful completion of the trials and final outfitting works, Shine is expected to be delivered to her owners in time for her inaugural Mediterranean season.

Formerly known during construction as Project EVO, Shine was christened at a launch ceremony at Van der Valk’s facilities in Waalwijk, attended by her owners alongside the design and engineering teams behind the project.

Largest vessel to date

She is the largest vessel ever built by the Van der Valk Shipyard.

Exterior styling was created by Cristiano Gatto Design, building on an original concept by SFG Yacht Design and Fancy by Dada.

The design evolved from an initial 36-metre concept into the current 40-metre vessel, with the owners involved at each stage.

A central objective was keeping Shine manageable for an owner, while delivering the fit and finish typically associated with much larger vessels.

Custom motoryacht construction

For Shine’s design, the owners brought their own exterior designers to the table, who worked alongside Van der Valk’s craftsmen across every discipline, from metalwork, carpentry, engineering, painting and interior construction, to create the luxury motor yacht.

The interior incorporates some 78 different materials, including ebony wood and fine leather, alongside bespoke furniture pieces designed specifically for the yacht.

Van der Valk specialises in custom motoryacht construction in the 25- to 45-metre range.
