German shipyards sold out of insolvency

German based Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellschaft (FSG) and Nobiskrug shipyards have been sold out of insolvency, securing their future.

Bremerhaven-based Heinrich Rönner Group which specialises in shipbuilding and heavy steel construction will take over operations at FSG.

The Heirich Rönner Group purchased the steel construction division of the Rendsburg Nobiskrug shipyard in November 2021.

The Australian shipping company SeaRoad is expected to act as a cooperation partner for FSG until a ferry the company has ordered from FSG is completed by the shipyard.

Bremen based Lürssen Group will continue production at Nobiskrug in Rendsburg with the yard to be managed as part of the nearby Lürssen-Kröger facility.

“We managed to find two renowned strategic investors for FSG and Nobiskrug within the extremely tight timeframe of just seven weeks,” said Dr Christoph Morgen, provisional insolvency administrator along with Hendrik Gittermann.

Long-term perspective

Speaking about the Nobiskrug development, Hendrik added: “We are very pleased that the takeover by Lürssen has created a long-term perspective for Rendsburg.

“The traditional company is an excellent fit for Nobiskrug. In addition, the capacities and locations of the two shipyards complement each other almost ideally.”

All 500 employees at the shipyards will receive an offer to move to a transfer company with more than 95% already agreed.

FSG was founded more than 153 years ago and during its history has built more than 750 ships from passenger steamers and three-masted schooners to fleet service boats and research vessels.

The Nobiskrug shipyard was established 120 years ago and has focused on luxury yacht construction since 2000.

The shipyard has built more than 750 craft since it was founded in 1905.

Both shipyards are owned by investor Lars Windhorst and are part of Windhorst’s Tennor Group.

Both Nobiskrug and FSG had been experiencing problems for some time.
