Ferretti secures approval for €3m Ancona upgrade

Ferretti Group has received approval for a €3 million expansion of a production shed at its Superyacht Division shipyard in Ancona, Italy, increasing the site’s intended build capacity to yachts of up to 100 metres.

The project is expected to take six months and will enlarge an existing construction hall, adding potential capacity.

Ferretti’s custom yacht arm CRN has previously built vessels of about 85 metres, while the Ancona site also produces yachts for Custom Line, Riva and Pershing.

The authorisation was completed under Italy’s Special Economic Zone procedures in a process involving the Port System Authority, the National Single SEZ administration, the Marche Region and the Municipality of Ancona.

Economic impact

The Port Authority estimates that the initial project and associated industrial activity could generate an overall economic impact of around €30 million.

The investment comes as Ancona’s superyacht sector seeks additional production space with around 40 projects reported to be in build or scheduled through to 2030, increasing pressure on existing facilities.

The approval may also support wider plans for superyacht construction in the port. A separate 100,000-square-metre area could become available, with Ferretti Group and Palumbo Superyachts reported to be interested in parts of the site. A decision on this land has been delayed.

Palumbo is already building a 100-metre ISA superyacht in Ancona and is investing in another facility at Ortona, which is expected to become fully operational in 2027.
