Netherlands based Balk Shipyard has been acquired by a Dutch entrepreneur who is set to take an active role in its daily operations.
The acquisition means 100% of the shipyard’s shares are back in Dutch hands.
The buyer’s identity has not been disclosed but has been welcomed by the shipyard which says its focus can remain unchanged – that of delivering high-quality refits and rebuild for superyachts between 25 and 65 metres.
“We are pleased to see Balk Shipyard return to Dutch ownership,” said Evan Kortmann, CEO of Balk Shipyard. “With a committed owner who is directly involved in the yard and its operations, we forward to the future with confidence.”
He added: “Our focus remains on delivering high-quality refits and rebuilds while preserving the craftsmanship that has defined us for generations. Our Dutch heritage is something we are proud of, and this change allows us to underline it further.”
We are pleased to see Balk Shipyard return to Dutch ownership.

The shipyard was previously owned by Hong Kong-based investment firm Zhongying International Holding Group, which acquired the yard in January 2022.
The reasons for this latest sale have not been publicly disclosed.
Balk Shipyard was founded in 1798 in Elburg, Netherlands, by Sijbrand Balk, with the shipyard initially specialising in building wooden boats on a small slipway.
The shipyard evolved over the years to cater for market demands, with the introduction of barges and small yachts in steel for private customers and steel constructions for other yards.
In 2004, the decision was made to move the company to its current premises on Urk with the new shipyard opening in 2007.
Over the past few decades the shipyard has focused primarily on refitting yachts. In addition to refits and rebuilds, it also builds new superyachts.
Further details regarding future plans and potential developments are anticipated to be released in the coming months.
