George Nicholson, founder of Camper & Nicholsons has died.
George was roen into a family with deep maritime roots which, together with his passion for yachting shaped his career from an early age.
In 1959, George travelled to Cannes and began promoting Camper & Nicholsons yachts, laying the groundwork for Mediterranean expansion.
And for more than six decades, George played a defining role in transforming the company into a global brand, pioneering the yacht brokerage industry, and shaping the modern luxury yachting landscape.
At the time, luxury yachts were based in Cannes or Monaco and under George’s leadership, Camper & Nicholsons quickly expanded with sales offices opened in Antibes, Monaco, Cannes and London, with Palma and offices in the US following.
“George was not only a visionary but a mentor, a gentleman, and an inspiration to all who had the privilege of working with him,” said Paolo Casani, CEO of Camper & Nicholsons.
“His legacy will live on in the yachts he helped bring to life, the industry he helped to shape, and the countless individuals he guided along the way.”

During the 1970s and 1980s under his leadership, Camper & Nicholsons brokered deals on some of the most significant yacht sales, collaborating with leading shipyards.
This period was followed by an expansion of Camper & Nicholsons global footprint, with the company strengthening its presence in the US and Mediterranean.
And in more recent times, George continued to mentor industry professionals, while shaping the superyacht industry with his expertise and insight.
“George’s influence extends far beyond business – his warmth, integrity, and deep respect for yachting traditions made him a revered figure in the industry,” said Camper & Nicholsons in a statement.
“His family, colleagues, and the entire yachting community will forever cherish his contributions.”
