Echandia, manufacturer of maritime battery systems, has appointed James Maitland as sales director for North America.
In his new role, James will help drive Echandia’s expansion in the region.
The appointment follows on from the opening of Echandia’s new US production facility in Marysville, Washington in January 2025.
Production is set to begin this spring, with flagship projects including San Francisco Bay Ferries, announced in 2024.
“We are fortunate to have James join our team,” said Trevor Small, who is leading Echandia’s US expansion.
“His experience and connections will be invaluable as we work to position Echandia as a leader in maritime electrification in North America, a market poised to surpass Europe in the coming years.”
James added: “I am thrilled to join Echandia as sales director, a company at the forefront of maritime electrification.
“With a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, Echandia is shaping the future of marine transportation.”
In March 2025, Echandia announced it had secured SEK 220 million (approximately €20 million) in financing to scale up its operations.
