Former Finnboat CEO dies

Jouko Huju, former Finnish Marine Industries Federation (Finnboat) CEO, has died after a short illness.

He served at Finnboat for more than 20 years in various capacities including CEO and chairman.

During his time at Finnboat, he helped grow the organisation to represent 280 companies and establish it as a cornerstone of the Finnish marine industry’s development.

During his career, Jouko was actively involved in a raft of other organisations and was a mentor and inspiration to many.

His passion for industry development, exports and international relations led him to ICOMIA (International Council of Marine Industry Associations) where he was a board member for 14 years and served two terms as president.

He was also actively involved in the establishment of European Boating Industry (EBI) and the KV- Foorum, a public- private partnership to foster dialogue and promote cooperation in the export sector.

His most recent tenure as executive director of the International Federation of Boat Show Organizers (IFBSO) was marked by a comprehensive turnaround strategy that revitalised the organisation and enhanced its global standing.

In 2020, Jouko was a founding member of Global Marine Business Advisors (GMBA), a role in which he demonstrated an unparalleled commitment to the growth and development of marine and boating companies worldwide, said Veda Pretorius, chair of GMBA.

Under his leadership, GMBA has established a network of industry experts across 22 countries who provide strategic guidance for companies seeking to expand their market presence.

His passion for the boating sector was unparalleled.
