Nautor Swan starts build of its largest sailing yacht

Nautor Swan has begun construction of the Swan Alloy 44, the largest sailing yacht ever created by the Finnish shipyard and the first aluminium yacht in its 60-year history.

The event marks the birth of Swan Alloy, a new line of aluminium sailing yachts exceeding 40 metres, expanding the brand’s presence into the superyacht arena.

Construction is currently taking place at Gouwerok Shipyard in the Netherlands, with specialists in aluminium yacht fabrication welding the first structural sections, including the keel and engine room foundations.

Once the aluminium hull and deck are completed, the yacht will be transported to Viareggio, Italy, for final outfitting and delivery, with launch scheduled for 2028.

The Swan Alloy 44 is designed by naval architect Malcolm McKeon, with the vessel a significant evolution for the Finnish shipyard.

For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter.

The interiors are from Paris-based Studio Liaigre designed for innovation, elegance and style.

The objective is to deliver a high level of comfort, with spaces designed to ensure exceptional livability and an outstanding onboard experience.

Massimo Perotti, executive chairman of Sanlorenzo and the first Alloy yacht’s owner, was present at the ceremony marking the start of contstruction.

“This is my first sailing yacht and I feel a special emotion after so many motor yachts,” he said.

“For Nautor Swan, this project opens a new chapter. It takes the brand into dimensions never explored before, while remaining faithful to the values that have defined Swan for 60 years.”

The new vessel is 43.5 metres in length with a beam of 9.45 metres and an estimated gross tonnage of 299 GT.

Features of the Swan Alloy 44 include a telescopic keel, allowing a variable draft from 4.3 to 6.3 metres.

The mast will be produced by Southern Spars, with sails by Doyle.

The new yacht will feature dual-energy technology, building on the dual-power propulsion experience developed both by Sanlorenzo, with its hybrid models and by Nautor Swan with the 51, 88 and 128.

The goal is to achieve full energy autonomy, with onboard generation and storage of energy while sailing.

Nautor Swan has partnered with brokerage house Edmiston to bring the model to market.
