Marine industry mourns the death of David (Dave) Rozycki

David (Dave) Rozycki, founder of Parkbridge Lifestyle Communities and former president of Maple Leaf Marinas Holdings, has died suddenly at the age of 64 while hiking.

Dave was a kind man who believed strongly in his community and his faith. He was a talented vocalist, singing Barbershop and soloing at many events and occasions. He was an accomplished sailor, avid golfer, and enjoyed hockey, mountain biking, hiking and making maple syrup from his sugar bush.

Dave was a pioneer in land development and real estate running Parkbridge from 1999 until he retired in 2011, selling the company, which at the time included 90 properties and five marinas.

Dave continued his endeavours with Maple Leaf Marinas, turning the business into a thriving enterprise.

No stranger to boating having been involved in the pastime in southern Georgian Bay his entire life, Dave sized an opportunity when the five Parkbridge marinas were put up for sale again in 2018.

Slow loss of boaters

The marinas – Wye Heritage, Bayport, Beacon Bay, Bay Moorings and Bridgeport – were bought by Maple Leaf Marinas.

At the time Dave said: “Up until 2011, these marinas were historically 80 to 90 per cent occupied. Between 2011 and 2017, there was a slow loss of boaters to other Georgian Bay marinas.”

He added: “I saw an opportunity to pick up some prized assets that were not performing up to expectation.

“There was an opportunity to turn them around, bring them back to what they were and make some money at the same time.”

Maple Leaf Marinas currently has 20 distinct marinas, dealerships, and marine resorts.

In 2021 Dave was the recipient of the Boating Ontario Gordon Blake Visionary Award.

Dave leaves behind his wife Regina, three children and six grandchildren.
