Yamaha Motor to acquire Telwater

BRP has entered into a definitive agreement to sell Telwater Pty to Yamaha Motor Australia Pty a subsidiary of Yamaha Motor Co.

The transaction follows BRP’s announcement in October 2024 to sell its marine businesses to focus its efforts and investments on its core powersports activities, designed to enhance its long-term success.

“We are pleased with today’s announcement, our first transaction in the process for the sale of our marine businesses,” said José Boisjoli, president and CEO of BRP.

“I would like to sincerely thank all of the talented employees for their contribution and commitment over the years.

“We know we can count on their professionalism to continue supporting our dealers and customers with dedication through this transition period, until the transaction is completed.”

Yamaha Motor Australia has been established in the region since 1983 and a key player in Australia’s boat industry.

Telwater includes the businesses of several brands including Quintrex, Stacer and Savage.

The company is one of Australia’s oldest boat manufacturers and a major producer and seller of aluminium boats and trailers in the southern hemisphere.

The acquisition of Telwater by Yamaha Motor is intended to strengthen the foundations of Yamaha Motor’s marine business.

Yamaha says it aims to not only expand its sales network in the country but also reinforce the foundations of its outboard motor business.

The acquisition positions the Marine Products business as a core Yamaha Motor business.

In its new medium-term management plan announced in February 2025, Yamaha Motor made raising the competitiveness of its core businesses part of its basic policy.

Going forward, Yamaha Motor says it will continue to accelerate its growth by making strategic investments, offering attractive products and services, and expanding global sales channels.

Telwater is based in Queensland, Australia and has around 300 employees and was acquired by BRP in 2019.

This transaction is subject to certain customary closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of BRP’s fiscal 2026.
