Yamaha Motor to transform headquarters

Yamaha Motor Co is investing in two new buildings on the grounds of its headquarters in Iwata, Japan, with construction scheduled to commence in 2026.

The two new facilities will be a Corporate Building and a Quality Assurance Centre, with both scheduled for completion in 2028.

Yamaha Motor relocated its headquarters to Iwata on the Shizuoka Prefecture nearly 55 years ago, and has made the city the heart of its manufacturing operations.

However, the company says the current buildings are presenting challenges that include aging facilities, insufficient space, and the dispersion of functions.

The new development will consolidate functional departments on headquarters grounds, aimed at bringing greater operational efficiency and enhancing organisational capabilities.

In addition, the office environment has been designed to facilitate flexible working styles, for both home and office working.

The planned Corporate Building will be the central hub for corporate operations at the Iwata headquarters and will comprise eight above-ground floors with a total floor area of 27,524sqm.

The office’s concept is Waku Work! (excitement and engagement) incorporating both flow and openness and from a disaster-prevention perspective, the building will adopt a base-isolation structure to strengthen business continuity.

Consolidation and upgrades

In addition, the design aims to maximise energy efficiency, for reduced operating costs and a lower environmental impact.

The Quality Assurance (QA) Centre will be the central hub for quality assurance operations at Yamaha’s Iwata headquarters and will comprise six above-ground floors with a total floor area of 11,444sqm.

Quality assurance-related functional departments and facilities that are currently dispersed across seven buildings will be consolidated and upgraded.

The centre will also further strengthen efforts aimed at ensuring full regulatory compliance, as well as the delivery of high-quality products and services.
