X Shore officially enters bankruptcy

Swedish electric boat manufacturer X Shore AB has has officially entered bankruptcy.

Company founder, Konrad Bergström, has acknowledged there is no viable path forward for the company, despite numerous efforts to save it as he described the decision as ‘painful’.

“As founder and leader I acknowledge my responsibility for how this chapter has unfolded, and I deeply regret the hardship and disappointment this ending has caused,” he said.

“To everyone affected by this journey – our employees, suppliers, partners and investors – I am truly sorry.”

And he said many different solutions had been tried but in the end, it wasn’t possible to save X Shore.

X Shore was founded in 2016 specialising in designing and manufacturing high-performance, electric boats.

The company’s first prototype was produced in 2018 followed by the launch of its Eelex 800 in 2020 and the S Shore 1 model in 2022.

The company’s boats were built in a factory in Nyköping which opened in 2021 and employed around 70 people.

X Shore ran into difficulties in October 2025 when its production arm – X Shore Production AB – filed for bankruptcy.

Competitor to X Shore

At the time, it was stated that X Shore AB remained fully operational, however in January 2026, Norwegian investor Staale Reiersen acquired X Shore Production AB, along with around 20 X Shore boats, via an auction site.

An announcement followed that Reiersen intended to restart electric boat production from the Nyköping factory, a move which Bergström says contributed to X Shore’s bankruptcy.

“I think the Nyköping Municipality is a part of this, since they sold the factory to what can be perceived as a competitor,” said Bergström.

And he explained the reasoning behind X Shore.

World-class product

“X Shore was never created to build just another boat. From the start, we set out to create a world-class product – one that could become a design classic, driven by leading technology and centred on the ultimate experience on the water.

“Our ambition was to rethink the entire experience — the UX, the interaction and how everything works together.

“Boating should be fun and feel more like a modern car than a traditional vessel: intuitive, coherent and thoughtfully designed. Not a collection of disconnected components, but one unified experience.

Original vision to be fulfilled

“Electric propulsion was a key enabler, due to its economics, the power of silence and sustainability. But the real goal was experience – like sailing without wind: no noise, no fumes, just presence.”

And he said that he hopes X Shore will find a beginning with a new partner, allowing the original vision to be fulfilled.
