Marine technology company Tonjo is preparing to move its Intelligent Cockpit platform towards series production after securing orders for more than 500 units from multiple Chinese boatbuilders.
The first installation has been completed aboard the Allegro Yacht 62CAT, a catamaran priced by the builder at between $2 million and $3.5 million depending on configuration.
Tonjo Intelligent Cockpit treats the vessel as one integrated platform. Built on a unified software architecture, it brings navigation, engine and systems monitoring, lighting, climate and entertainment together through a single interface.
“The automotive industry spent the past decade turning the cockpit into one system that runs the whole vehicle,” said Chenglun Zhang, founder of Tonjo.
“We’re bringing that approach to boats – one system that runs the whole vessel, so its functions are easier to understand, access and control.”
Configurable platform
The platform enables voice control across the vessel rather than limiting it to individual functions such as media playback. TONJO has also designed the software to continue improving through regular releases after the boat has been delivered.
Tonjo was founded by Zhang after ten years working in China’s intelligent vehicle industry. The companyu’s Shanghai-based team of around 20 people brings experience in automotive cockpit software, vehicle control systems and connected vehicle platforms.
The Intelligent Cockpit has been created as a configurable platform that can be adapted across different boat types and shipyards. Zhang says the team’s experience of developing similar technology for the automotive market will help the company scale in the marine market.
Tonjo marked its first anniversary in June 2026 and completed its seed funding round during the same month. Its wider product launch in China is planned for the end of 2026.
