Thordon Bearings opens third manufacturing plant

Thordon Bearings has opened a third manufacturing facility near its Burlington head office in response to growth across its business segments and increased demand for its water-lubricated bearings and seals.

Plant 3 will primarily produce TG100 water-lubricated mechanical seals and water quality packages for marine and hydropower customers.

It will also accommodate Thordon’s new product development team and operations for sister company Marsh Brothers Aviation.

The additional space is intended to increase production output, reduce lead times and provide capacity for complementary non-bearing equipment and future products.

It also frees capacity at Thordon’s head office for manufacturing and workforce expansion.

Thordon says its workforce has grown by 32% since the end of 2023, with roles added across management, sales and production at its head office and the new plant.

Increased capacity

The company expects recruitment to continue as capacity increases.

“Creating additional production space has allowed Thordon and MBA to optimise layouts for assembly, machining and office areas, improving throughput, productivity and efficiency,” said Anna Galoni, chair and chief executive of Thordon Bearings.

“This expanded facility strengthens our ability to meet the lead times our distributors and customers expect as we service growing demand.”

And she added that Burlington continued to provide access to skilled workers and government support, while the proximity of the two facilities would support collaboration between teams.
