The recreational boat market in Spain closed the first half of the year with a total of 2,792 registrations in the period from January to June 2025, representing an 8% decrease compared to the same period in 2024.
The figures are from the latest report prepared by country’s marine trade association, ANEN, based on data from the Directorate General of the Merchant Marine.
The most affected segment continues to be boats up to 6 meters in length, representing 66.9% of the market, which saw a year-on-year drop of 10%.
By market, jet skis saw the largest decline (-17.4%), however the market for folding inflatable boats increased by 40.7% compared to 2024.
Downward trend
In the rental sector, the downward trend is accentuated with registrations standing at 905 units, a drop of 21.1% compared to the same period in 2024.
By province, Murcia and Pontevedra led the growth in terms of numbers of registrations.
Both provinces recorded increases of more than 50% with Murcia up 56% and Pontevedra up 63.4%.
Adjustment
This was in contrast to significant declines in the Balearic Islands (-32.3%) and Girona (-36.6%).
“This first half of the year confirms that the nautical market continues in a phase of adjustment after years of growth,” said Jordi Carrasco, general manager of ANEN.
“At ANEN, we continue working with the government and the business community to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness, with particular attention to promoting chartering and modernising the nautical offering.”
For the period January to May 2025, there were 2,014 boat registrations, a decline of 11.6% compared to the same period in 2024.
There were 654 recreational vessels registered for chartering in the same period, a drop of 25%.
