Patent filing advances E-Motion powertrain security

Vision Marine Technologies has filed a new US patent application to advance its E-Motion electric high-voltage (HV) marine powertrain’s security.

The application covers an advanced secure communication framework employing token-based authentication to safeguard essential vessel systems from unauthorized access.

The technology uses a secure gateway acting as a protective intermediary between external interface devices and internal CAN bus systems.

“This patent represents another milestone in strengthening the innovative foundation of our E-Motion platform, ensuring unmatched digital security and reliability,” said Xavier Montagne, chief technology officer at Vision Marine.

Electric propulsion

“We are determined to lead the marine industry with groundbreaking electric propulsion solutions and are incredibly proud of this latest innovation that delivers secure, powerful, and intuitive control for both OEMs and consumers.”

The technology uses a dynamic content server embedded within the gateway which enables real-time loading of control interfaces and diagnostic tools directly onto vessel dashboards, removing the need for physical access to hardware.

The approach has been developed to simplify OEM integration, and enhance user interaction without compromising security.

The patent has been filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
