Oyster Yachts worker stole equipment worth thousands

A former Oyster Yachts employee has been found guilty of stealing thousands of pounds worth of equipment from the boatbuilder.

According to a report in the Eastern Daily Press, Stuart Elgie, aged 56, took expensive pieces of marine equipment between June 2021 and May 2023 while working at Oyster Yachts in Hoveton, UK.

Elgie, of Windsor Park Gardens, Norwich, had denied taking equipment worth £7,300 but was found guilty following a trial at Norwich Magistrates Court.

He was fined £1,100 and ordered to pay costs totalling £1,090.

Investigation

A previous court hearing was told that the stolen items of equipment were recovered from his home address following an investigation by Oyster Yachts.

Magistrates said they had decided to impose a fine in lieu of a community penalty due to Elgie’s lack of previous convictions.

Oyster Yachts has bases in Hoveton and Ipswich in the UK, as well as facilities in USA, Spain and Australia.

The company builds a range of luxury bluewater sailing yachts.
