Alewijnse has been acquired by the Oceanco Group, itself recently acquired by Gabe Newell – founder of Valve Corporation and visionary behind Inkfish, a private initiative for scientific ocean research.
With the acquisition the systems integrator company is entering a new phase following seven years as a portfolio company of Strong Root Capital.
During this period the company has strengthened and professionalised its operations, which now enables it to grow with greater momentum.
“Over the past seven years, we have greatly enjoyed supporting and guiding the management of Alewijnse,” said Patrick Zanders, partner at Strong Root Capital.
Joining the Oceanco Group is a logical step in the further development of our organisation.

The company has grown significantly, set a clear vision for the future, and secured a solid market position.
“We are proud that Oceanco and Gabe Newell have been found as new owners to continue and further expand this course. This is without doubt the right step at the right time.”
Alewijnse brings more than 135 years of experience in electrical engineering and automation to the Group.
Over the decades, the company has built on its position as a leading partner across the yachting, naval and governmental, dredging, offshore and transport industries, as well as the industrial sector.
Acceleration of a proven approach
The company emphasises the new partnership does not signal a change in course, but rather the acceleration and reinforcement of a proven approach.
Both companies say they share the same vision for technological innovation and reliability, as well as a proactive, solutions-driven mindset.
The two companies have worked together on various yacht projects since the 1990s, and with advanced electrical systems playing an increasingly crucial role in both shipbuilding and land-based industries, the longstanding relationship is slated as a logical springboard to a shared future and the strategic reason for this acquisition.
The purchase of Oceanco Group by Gabe Newell adds an extra dimension to the development.
Sustainable growth
The Group has an international network and a strong focus on technological and societal impacts, which they say will bring fresh momentum and room for sustainable growth.
Alewijnse will continue to operate as an independent company within the Oceanco Group, retaining its own identity, client relationships and market position.
The acquisition is aimed at enabling Alewijnse to expand its expertise, accelerate innovation, and serve all its clients even better with smart and sustainable technological solutions.
Market position
“We are proud of what we have achieved at Alewijnse over the past years. Joining the Oceanco Group is a logical step in the further development of our organisation,” said Gert Bravenboer, CEO of Alewijnse.
“We are strengthening our market position without compromising our own identity. Electrical systems integration is at the heart of our maritime and industrial segments.
“Together with Oceanco and Gabe Newell, we can further build on our leading expertise and see great opportunities to realise our long-term ambitions.”
Marcel Onkenhout, CEO of Oceanco, added: “With Alewijnse joining the Oceanco Group, we have the opportunity to develop new solutions and innovations that serve not only yachting, but also other maritime sectors.”
