Northern Light has shown the first renderings of its new Offshore 35.
Known for its Ecoracer 30, the Italian company presented its new project at the Yacht Racing Forum, held as part of METSTRADE.
The offshore yacht will be the first serial production offshore yacht to be designed and built in Italy adhering to the principles of the circular economy using sustainable materials.
The Offshore 35 is said to address the growing interest in offshore racing with a vessel ready for international competition, optimised for IRC events, Mediterranean, Channel, and Atlantic conditions.
The yacht is 10.35m in length and designed by Gianluca Guelfi and Fabio D’Angeli.
Production of the prototype will begin in January at nlcomp’s facility in Friuli Venezia Giulia, with the first launch scheduled for summer 2025.
The yacht will then undergo testing in Adriatic races, including the Double Handed World Championship in September.
“The Offshore 35 by Northern Light is inspired by the Class 40 concept and designed to excel in IRC racing while ensuring a fun, fast, and manageable experience for the crew thanks to innovative design and construction methods,” said Luca Rosetti, who introduced the yacht at the Yacht Racing Forum.
“This yacht perfectly aligns with my vision of a sailing project. With nlcomp, I share fundamental values for the future of sailing: innovation, research, and sustainability.”
Fabio Bignolini, CEO of nlcomp, added: “Over the past months, we’ve worked tirelessly to establish a solid foundation for this project, both organisationally and technically.
“We’ve also achieved a strategic breakthrough by being the first to obtain ISO 14021 validation for the recyclability of rComposite from DNV.
“Building on our numerous international awards, including the World Sailing Technology Award, we’re ready to take on this exciting challenge.”
Northern Light, is NLComp’s marine-focused brand which uses a production process that uses sustainable materials and adopts circular solutions throughout the construction cycle-from mold manufacturing to waste management.
nlomp received an honorable mention at the Boat Builder Awards for its collaboration with Cantiere del Pardo on the Grand Soleil Blue project.
The project is the first yacht built in Italy by a major shipyard using nlcomp’s rComposite technology.
