New Yanmar factory for hydrogen marine engines

Yanmar Power Solutions is continuing its development of next-generation fuel compatible engines with a new facility dedicated to hydrogen powered marine engines.

In anticipation of increased production of marine and land-use engines in the future, the company has acquired land at the Phoenix industrial site in Amagasaki City, Hyogo Prefecture.

The company plans to construct a new factory on the site to conduct activities such as test operation of marine hydrogen engines.

The new factory is scheduled to begin operations around March 2029.

Through the initiative, the company plans to also reorganise and strengthen its production system, including its existing factories.

Decarbonisation-related technologies

Yanmar points out that in the marine industry, efforts are underway to develop and commercialise decarbonisation-related technologies toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

By using its experience in engine development and manufacturing, Yanmar Power Solutions will continue to promote the development of powertrains compatible with next-generation fuels such as hydrogen, methanol, and ammonia, as well as establish corresponding production systems.

The site, provisionally named Amagasaki Coastal Factory, will encompass an area of around 3.4 hectares with a facility floor area of around 8,000 square metres.

The facility will focus on testing and operation of marine hydrogen engines and related activities.

Yanmar Power Solutions is part of Yanmar Holdings Group.
