Promoting innovation and investment in marine technology was one of the key priorities highlighted in the 2025 American Boating Congress (ABC).
The event bought together marine industry leaders and policymakers for discussions on the future of recreational boating and marine manufacturing.
Other priorities highlighted included supporting pro-growth policies that sustain US manufacturing competitiveness, expanding access to public waters and modernising recreation infrastructure.
During the event, National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and industry partners also hosted the American Recreational Boating Technology Demo, a live demonstration of next-generation marine technologies.
Speakers highlighted the need to prioritise the development and distribution of sustainable marine fuels; partnering with governments and the global industry to establish marine EV standards and consumer safety protocols; and expanding R&D investments to improve marine biofuels and e-fuels development, hydrogen research and battery density.
Sustainable marine fuels
The showcase featured the industry’s Propelling Our Future initiative and included on-water trials of sustainable marine fuels and advanced propulsion systems including a boat that runs on sustainable marine fuels, in partnership with Suzuki Marine.
The alternative fuels require no changes to the boat, engine or fuel system with no impact on range or performance.
The demo event also featured, in partnership with Yamaha, a boat fitted with WAVS warning technology, helping to maintain access to America’s waterways while protecting marine life.
Collective efforts
“The American Boating Congress is more than just an event, it’s where we unite as an industry to speak with one voice and that voice continues to be a powerful platform for uniting industry and shaping public policy,” said Frank Hugelmeyer, president and CEO of the NMMA.
“This week, our collective efforts helped shape the future of recreational boating and fishing in the United States.”
The event drew a diverse range of participants from across the recreational boating supply chain, including manufacturers, dealers, marinas, and service providers.
The event served as a focal point for advancing legislative priorities and showcasing the marine industry’s role in US manufacturing and outdoor recreation.
The 2026 American Boating Congress will take place from May 4–6 in Washington, DC.
