Hyde Sails historic vessel project

Hyde Sails has teamed up with triple round the world yachtsman Conrad Humphreys to provide sailmaking support for his latest historical project.

Working with sailcloth manufacturer Dimension-Polyant, the collaboration will equip Conrad’s historical vessel, Bounty with a new set of sails.

Conrad has been developing a new cutter rig and trialling it on Bounty – featured in Channel 4’s Mutiny – ahead of another historical maritime voyage.

To meet the expedition conditions, Hyde Sails and Dimension-Polyant designed a bespoke sail package aimed at providing durability, performance and efficiency.

“I’m delighted that Hyde sails have joined our team as we prepare to re-discover another remarkable historical voyage,” said Conrad.

“This week we have been out testing in Plymouth Sound and the new Hyde sails are brilliant. We’ve learnt a huge amount working with the design team to modify Bounty from a lugger to a cutter rig.”

Charlie Bird, CEO at Hyde Sails, added: “We’re thrilled to collaborate with Conrad Humphreys and Dimension-Polyant on this extraordinary project.

“The combination of Hyde’s craftsmanship, Dimension-Polyant’s innovative materials, and Conrad’s unparalleled experience has resulted in a sail package that should meet the demands of Conrad’s new adventures.”

The replica Bounty boat was built for the Channel 4 TV series Mutiny which recreated Lieutenant Bligh’s open boat voyage.

The craft was skippered by Conrad who later bought the vessel and launched the Bounty Project in 2017 to create a living history experience.
