Gunwharf Quays Marina owner agrees £3.1bn cash takeover

Mitie Group, which runs Gunwharf Quays Marina in Portsmouth, UK, has agreed a £3.1bn cash takeover by rival facilities management group OCS Group International.

Completion is subject to certain terms and conditions, including approval by Mitie’s shareholders and regulatory approvals.

The proposed takeover would create a UK-headquartered international facilities management group with greater sector expertise and geographic reach.

Gunwharf Quays Marina is located at the mouth of Portsmouth Harbour, beneath the iconic Spinnaker Tower, and offers access to the Solent and South Coast sailing and cruising waters.

The marina can accommodate power and sail craft up to 80 metres in length with a maximum depth of 5.5 metres.

Major sailing events

The berths are close to the Gunwharf Quays retail outlets, restaurants, cafes, cinema, bowling alley and casino.

The marina has hosted major sailing events including the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race, which has started and finished in Portsmouth.

“This is an important milestone for both organisations and an exciting opportunity to bring together two highly complementary businesses with a shared commitment to delivering the best outcomes for colleagues and customers,” said OCS group chief executive officer Rob Legge.

Phil Bentley, chief executive officer of Mitie, added: “As part of a larger group with a wider geographical footprint, Mitie would have an even stronger platform to invest in our people, technology and services, and to do even more for the customers and communities we support.

“There is a process still to run and much to work through. Until completion, it is business as usual, and our focus stays firmly on delivering safely and reliably for our customers every day.”
