Future Fibres has signed a four year extension with SailGP to supply composite rigging to the sail racing championship.
The partnership dates back to 2019 when Future Fibres first supplied its ECsix multi-strand carbon rigging solution which is installed onboard all the F50 catamarans taking part.
ECsix is a light and small-diameter carbon rigging product, with a high strength-to-weight ratio.
The product is capable of withstanding the dynamic loads generated by the F50s, which can reach speeds in excess of 100km/h.
In addition, the product can be coiled for packing and transportation after each championship event.
Future Fibres is supported by partner company RigPro as the event visits each global destination.
Continuous innovation
“It’s an honour to work with the SailGP league,” said Marco Sevila, head of sales for Future Fibres.
“Supporting a championship operating at this level pushes us to innovate continuously, and together we’re raising the performance standards of elite sailing worldwide.”
Joel Marginson, director of SailGP Technologies, added: “Future Fibres has been a trusted supplier and long-standing supporter of SailGP.
“Their technology plays an important role in ensuring the reliability and performance of the F50 fleet as we continue to redefine the sport of sailing.”
And he added that SailGP is unique in that each of the team’s F50 catamaran is a one-boat design, however, it can be fitted with a range of different wing configurations which require precise rigging setups.
