Four boats destroyed in Australian marina blaze

A fire at Hillarys Boat Harbour in Perth, Australia, has destoyed four boats – the second time a blaze has struck the marina in just over four months.

Firefighters were called to the marina after reports a boat was ablaze.

The fire, which started on a single boat and spread to nearby vessels resulted in black plumes of smoke and fumes and caused a warning to be put in place for the area.

Around 30 firefighters attended the scene and took more than three hours to extinguish the blaze.

Four vessels were completely destroyed by the flames and subsequently sank.

Cause of the fire

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services says the cause of the fire is yet be determined.

Firefighters worked with the Department of Transport’s pollution response to contain the fuel that was onboard the boats.

An investigation will now take place with officials reviewing the information to hand including any video footage.

It is intended to refloat the remains of the boats.

The fire follows on from a previous blaze at Hillarys Boat Harbour last September when a 50-foot boat was engulfed in flames.
