Maarten Logtenberg and Charléne van Wingerden have founded the Dutch Boat Factory
Former CEAD Group’s Maarten Logtenberg and Charléne van Wingerden have taken the helm of the newly established Dutch Boat Factory.
The company has been set up to design and build hulls and boats for boat builders, commercial operators and defence organisations, using scalable 3D printing automation.
Logtenberg, who founded the CEAD Group and remains a shareholder, believes there is a real opportunity in the market for 3D printing as he explained the reasoning behind the new company.
“Why a new company? Especially since last year, within CEAD Group, we were already 3D printing boats,” he said.
There is a real opportunity in this market.
Maarten Logtenberg
“With CEAD, we have been building and delivering large scale industrial 3D printers for almost 12 years. Last year we started an internal project focused on 3D printed boats, mainly to accelerate the adoption of our technology.”
He continued: “While doing this, two things became very clear. There is a real opportunity in this market. And at the same time, this is not where CEAD should be focused long term. CEAD exists to serve its customers with the best machines possible, not to operate factories or compete with the same customers it supplies.
“Because of that, CEAD made the decision to stop its boat printing activities and stop with the Maritime Application Center (MAC).”
And he said that both he and van Wingerden wanted to keep going and make the most of the traction that had been built.
Assets, machines and equipment
“We all felt and agreed that this deserved full focus. Its own company. A clean setup, with the right structure to grow,” he said.
“That is how Dutch Boat Factory was created.”
The new company has taken over the assets, machines and equipment and has an operational factory in Delft, The Netherlands.
A Seed funding round is being prepared to bring in partners, build a team and expand production capacity.
Funding will also allow Dutch Boat Factory to continue developing boats, regulations and materials.
And Logtenberg thanked his former business partner, Lucas Janssen, for the trust and space to allow him to start the new chapter.
