A fire has destroyed the Carbon Line shipyard located in Italy’s Fano district.
The shipyard, that employs around 100 people with another 200 people subcontractors, was completely engulfed in flames.
All occupants were evacuated with one needing medical treatment.
The fire at the 20,000-square-metre warehouse is reported to have broken out on August 11 2025.
Dozens of local police and firefighter teams were sent to the site. In addition, remote controlled drones were used to provide live video feeds and thermal images of area to assist in the firefighting attempts.
Fiberglass molds destroyed
In addition, remote-controlled robots were used to access internal areas of the warehouse.
Those living and working nearby were evacuated.
The fire has destroyed the company’s fiberglass molds and semi-finished products and has caused millions of euros of damage.
The company’s project manager, Giovanni Piscopo told the local newspaper, vivere fano, the future of Carbon Line is murky.
“Millions of euros have gone up in smoke, and we don’t know how, when, or if we’ll be able to move forward,” he said.
Small explosions from the roof
Around 20 people were working in the facility at the time of the fire completing urgent work and heard small explosions coming from the roof.
They went to check it out,” Giovanni told vivere fano, “and in an instant, everything erupted. Flames were racing, smoke filled the air. The fear was overwhelming. Everyone fled, just trying to get out alive.”
The shipyard carrires out work for major boatbuilders and will now have to evaluate its long-term future.
“We will need layoffs, and the company will have to evaluate whether to temporarily relocate production. Reconstruction could take years,” continued Giovanni.
Azimut Benetti and Ferretti
“We work for large groups like Azimut Benetti and Ferretti, but now we need support.
“Inside were almost finished boats: some are safe, most were destroyed. We don’t know if it will be enough to keep the business afloat in the coming months.”
In addition to contract manufacturing, the company has developed the Eleva Yachts brand, a range of fast sailing cruisers designed by Giovanni Ceccarelli.
The damage will cause delays to yachts under construction and have an impact on several Italian shipyards.
The company, founded in 2012, recorded a turnover of 24.6 million euros in 2023.
Its core business is processing of high-performance composite materials, primarily carbon fibre and fibreglass, through vacuum infusion lamination.
