French pleasure boat dismantling organisation APER has approved its 36th end-of-life boat treatment and dismantling centre.
VERDE SXM in Saint-Martin has been fully integrated into APER’s systems, marking the first time the organisation has established a facility in the French Overseas Collectivities (COM).
VERDE SXM is headed by Maxime Arnal and will provide a solution to the problem of abandoned and boats at the end of their life in the area.
APER is a national eco-organisation approved by France’s Ministry of Ecological and Inclusive Transition to manage the deconstruction and recycling of end-of-life pleasure and sports boats.
The opening of this centre on Saint-Martin is part of the organisation’s strategy to increase the number of its end of life processing network.
Dismantling operations
Approval by APER guarantees full traceability of dismantling operations, in line with the requirements of the eco-organisation’s specifications.
The VERDE SXM centre has now been integrated into APER’s information system allowing boaters to submit their request for disposal.
APER was created in 2009 by the Fédération des Industries Nautiques (FIN) to provide a logistical and environmental response for owners of end-of-life boats to dispose of their craft with those placing boats on the market contributing to provide for the waste treatment.
The scheme covers all boats and pleasure boats from 2.5 to 24 metres with the first deconstruction taking place in Brittany in 2019.
The approval of the Saint Martin centre is part of APER’s plans to expand its coverage across the whole of France.
