ampStay completes testing and launches seed funding round

ampStay, developer of a new flexible wind turbine for sailing yachts, has completed its testing and development phases.

The Austrian company began wind tunnel testing in 2022 and has now launched a seed financing round to scale production and accelerate market entry.

ampStay’s wind turbine rotates around a yacht’s backstay, with a modular, helix-inspired design allowing operation at any angle, in any environment.

A generator supplies poiwer from around 8 knots of wind speed and also brakes the rotation at high wind speeds.

The system provides up to 600 watts of power with the 7-metre system and 1000 watts with a 10-metre rotor depending on the installed rotor height, the wind strength and the type of generator used.

Our technology is ready to disrupt markets that have long been overlooked by conventional solutions.

“This is a milestone for ampStay and a big step ahead for the future of wind energy in a very promising and wealthy niche,” explained Harald Hackenberg, founder and CEO of ampStay.

“Our technology is ready to disrupt markets that have long been overlooked by conventional solutions.”

He added: “With this seed round, we will ramp up production, expand our team, and bring our game-changing turbine to customers who need sustainable and autonomous electric power, wherever they are.”

Sales acceleration

The funds raised will support pre-series and series production. Investment will also enable sales acceleration in key markets, particularly the green yachting sector, and strengthen global distribution capabilities as the company scales operations.

ampStay has received recognition from the EU’s Blue-Invest programme.

ampStay’s development, testing and performance determination has been carried out with the support of the Institute for Renewable Energy at the Departement Industrial Engineering at the FH Technikum Austria – University for Applied Science and is partly funded by the Austrian Reseach Agency – FFG.
