The UK’s Richardsons Leisure has been granted permission to update its boatyard site at Stalham in the Norfolk Broads which will include new visitor facilities and extra moorings.
The firm says the scheme is part of a £2m investment in its locations, with its site in Hemsby also due to benefit.
The Stalham site covers around 11.3 hectares.
Richardsons Leisure had applied for planning permission to demolish five workshop buildings and build a reception building, visitor centre and a wellbeing facility.
The company had also applied to extend its mooring basins to create five areas divided by jetties, adding around 45 private moorings. The number of charter moorings will be reduced by around 60.
Mooring accessibility
Overall mooring numbers will remain the same, however the company plans to improve mooring accessibility with finger pontoons proposed for all mooring areas.
Richardsons has previously said its plans will create ten full-time jobs.
Stalham is the company’s main base on the Broads and is used by its day boat and cruiser hire operations.
The company hopes to encourage more day visitors to the hub by adding a Broads National Park visitor centre to the mix, featuring an interactive ‘learning and play experience’.
The scheme was approved by Broads Authority members.
