boot Düsseldorf has initiated a fundraising campaign in favour of Ukrainian sailors with the support of the German Sailing Federation (DSV).
Organisers of the trade fair point out that most of the boats, sails and other equipment have been destroyed in bomb attacks and donations of equipment – new and used – are welcome by the sailing clubs on the Black Sea.
A list compiled by the Ukrainian Sailing Federation of boats and materials that are most urgently needed includes Optis and Cadet boats, ILCAS, boats for sailors with disabilities, IQ foils for men, women and children, Nacra 17s as well as 29ers and 49ers.
In addition, rigging items and sails, drives/motors and accessories such as anchors are required.
Donations
Kühne + Nagel will set up a storage container at boot Düsseldorf opposite Hall 6 at Gate 1 where donations can be left from 2 January until 28 January 2024.
“It is extremely important to help our Ukrainian sailing friends get back on their feet,” said boot Director Petros Michelidakis. “I am calling on the manufacturers, our exhibitors, to donate material for the clubs.”
Representatives from boot and DSV will travel to Ukraine after the show finishes to hand over to the President of the Ukrainian Sailing Association, Eugen Moyseenko.
In addition, Ukrainian sailors and their coaches will attend the show and try the activities on offer.
The Ukrainian Sailing Association will have a stand in Hall 15 at boot 2024 and present a sailing boat built in Ukraine.
A website for the campaign has been set up at https://www.boot.com/en/Program/Events/Specials/Ukraine_fundraising_campaign
