Fresh start for Cornish Crabbers

Cornish Crabbers has been sold out of liquidation to a team from Poole based Blue Lagoon Marine led by Ben Walker.

Production is expected to restart soon and remain in Cornwall.

“It’s exciting times,” said Ben. “Our priority is to get customer boats completed and out the door. There is still a lot to sort out and work through.”

But he added: “We cannot let this classic brand just disappear. It has been quite complicated, and we have had the added complication of customers’ boats midway through production to deal with.”

Blue Lagoon will act as sales agents for new boats and used boats with an exclusive Cornish Crabbers brokerage formed with details and specs of the models.

In addition, it is hoped that a strong boat show presence can be built up to push the brand further and gain more international exposure.

Particular emphasis will be paid to the smaller models including the Shrimper 19 which is very popular.

A new website is currently being constructed to cover the Cornish Crabber line up – Shrimper 17, 19, 21 and Crabber 24, 26 and Pilot 30 which will include a boat configurator.

A new range of merchandise will also be introduced.

Cornish Crabbers LLP entered voluntary liquidation earlier in 2024, with some of the larger debts including more than £35,000 to E.P. Barrus, more than £13,000 to Freeland Yacht Spars, more than £15,000 to SM Group (Europe), and almost £40,000 to Freeman Sails Ltd.

In addition, more than £36,000 was owed to HMRC for PAYE and VAT.

The sale includes the intellectual property and the moulds for on-going production.
