The Fincantieri Foundation and Sapienza University of Rome are to collaborate to promote research and innovation in the shipbuilding sector.
The agreement aims to consolidate collaboration between the academic and industrial worlds, promoting the development of new technologies and sustainable solutions.
Under the agreement, programmes will be launched dedicated to the development of applied research projects and advanced training in the field of new materials engineering and occupational medicine.
Emphasis will be placed on developing materials capable of meeting the highest safety standards, while ensuring adequate technical performance for new-generation ships.
Knowledge and technologies
The agreement aims to create a bridge between the academic world and industry, promoting the development of cutting-edge knowledge and technologies.
The Fincantieri Foundation will play a central role in the project, managing and coordinating the activities envisaged by the agreement.
“This agreement aims to be a virtuous example of how the synergy between university and industry is essential to address some industrial and social issues,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and general manager of Fincantieri.
“With this collaboration we want to combine Sapienza’s skills in occupational medicine and materials engineering to strengthen and innovate production processes in shipyards, with the aim of maximising safety in the workplace with short, medium and long-term actions.
Operational excellence
“[It’s] A project that demonstrates the commitment of the Fincantieri Foundation to invest in future generations, creating a bridge to develop cutting-edge technologies and promote safety and operational excellence.”
Antonella Polimeni, Rector of Sapienza University of Rome, added: “This partnership aims to promote the study and exchange of know-how on topics of fundamental interest and great relevance such as health and safety at work and the study of innovative materials.”
The Fincantieri Foundation was founded in 2008 to preserve and enhance the history of the Italian naval-mechanical industry, while promoting innovation and research in the sector.
