£5.4 million investment for Welsh marina

Hafan Pwllheli marina in Wales is to have £5.4 million investment over the next decade to bring its facilities up to date.

The investment is from the local council as part of its Assets Plan, which gives the green light to capital expenditure so that it can manage its assets and avoid the risk of failing to provide services.

The marina, which has a waiting list of around 200 for a space in the marina, is said to support more than 50 full-time jobs.

The marina has more than 400 fully serviced pontoon berths together with onshore facilities and boatyard services.

Out of the £5.4 million, £1.4 million will be spent on dredging the harbour to provide safe access.

In addition, £4 million will be spent on renewing the pontoons that have reached the end of their lives.

During 2023 – 2024, the council made a profit from the marina with £700,000 raised.

The Assets Plan has also earmarked £1.7 million for Victoria Dock – Doc Fictoria – for marine gate replacement and pontoon refurbishment.

The gate is in urgent need of replacement and was broken for a period last year with a risk of lost income. The pontoons have also reached the end of their lives.
