NatPower H, developer of green hydrogen production, storage and distribution solutions for the maritime sector, has completed a double hydrogen refuelling of ALBA, Europe’s first hydrogen training and research vessel.
The refuelling operation was completed at the Port of Fontvieille, with support from the City of Monaco and the Yacht Club de Monaco.
The refuelling took place over two days, with technical support from Linde Gas Italia.
The first refuelling took place on June 8 with 65kg of hydrogen refuelled at 350 bar.
On June 9, a further 45kg of hydrogen was refuelled, making a total of 110kg of green hydrogen.
Zero emissions
The NatPower refuelling will allow the ALBA training vessel to sail with zero emissions for 10 hours.
ALBA is a 19.95-meter-long and 5.60-meter-wide vessel designed for fishing and research training. It is powered by a hybrid electric-hydrogen propulsion system, consisting of two 70kW fuel cells, two 200kW main engines and two 178kWh batteries.
Hydrogen is stored on board in tanks with a total capacity of 75.6kg at 350 bar.
The vessel has been developed by EODev in collaboration with the Lycée Maritime de Bastia and other experts in the maritime and energy sectors.
Refuelling projects
ALBA is built to Bureau Veritas standards.
The ALBA project joins a series of other refuelling projects carried out by NatPower H. The first was Tullio Abbate Elite 27 H Poseidon, the world’s first hydrogen refuelling on a lake, carried out in partnership with GEKO-Inocel and Tullio Abbate.
In addition, NatPower H has refuelled the BGH Chase Boat in Italy, a vessel destined for the 37th America’s Cup, in partnership with Bluegame and refuelled three hydrogen boats during the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge 2024.
NatPower H is part of the NatPower Group.
