Garmin to supply new X-Yachts XR 41

Garmin has been selected by X-Yachts to supply digital switching and monitoring for the new XR 41 model to be premiered at boot Düsseldorf 2025.

The XR 41 racing yacht is optimised to be at the fastest end of ORC category B. The craft is a 41.8ft racer and sporty cruiser, billed as a serious return to the X-Yachts DNA.

The XR 41 has a hull with shallow volume, not much rocker with volume evenly distributed longships and overhang, especially at the bow.

The stern is V-shaped, with the centerline barely touching the water surface.

The maximum beam is 4.18m and the yacht has a moderate draft of 2.4m, allowing for racing in almost any waters.

“A raw racer normally has a short life and loses value after a few years,” said an X-Yachts spokesperson. “The XR 41 is designed to win races for many years and also to be used for sporty family sailing for decades.

X-Yachts is working with a very selective target group of yacht owners.

Parts of the interior of the XR 41 modular – including the parts of the galley and the lockers in the aft and front cabins – that can be removed for racing and installed for cruising.

Deck layout is set up for racing with a full crew, but also designed to work for shorthanded, and even singlehanded sailing.

Focus has been on the rating aspect in the XR project, including how to address and meet rule changes in the future.

The design allows the keel, sail plan, rigging, rudder, displacement and other elements to be adapted.

The XR 41 will be available in two versions – race and sport.

Premium digital switching

The racing version will have square top main and split backstay, while the sport version will have a smaller sail area, pinhead main and single backstay.

The keel will be available in different with the 2.4m standard. For sails, the main focus will be asymmetric with a bow sprit.

“X-Yachts is working with a very selective target group of yacht owners,” said X-Yachts CEO Kræn Nielsen.

“This goes for all our models, and the new XR 41 not least. It is fundamental to cooperate with the best partners and suppliers in the ongoing work with the yachts, and it is in fact quite natural for us to choose Garmin in the XR 41 project.”

Pontus Fernstrom, EMEA marine segment director, Garmin added: “We’re excited to announce that we can offer our wide range of premium digital switching and monitoring to the XR 41.

“This new collaboration marks the start of an exciting new chapter for both brands, uniting a shared passion for sailing and underscoring a commitment to enhancing the experiences of our global customers.”
