Gommoni Callegari is expanding into the yacht tender market with the acquisition of Geniuss.
The acquisition of Geniuss builds on Callegari’s growth strategy and will also enable a new range of carbon-fibre tenders to be developed.
The transaction will provide Callegari RIBs with additional manufacturing experience, an established tender range and the Geniuss patented outboard engine mechanism that repositions the outboard engine inside the tender through a unique translation system.
The system is based on the principle of ‘splitting two elements’, which allows the outboard engine to move forward inside the tender through a sliding support combined with a folding transom.
The system eliminates the protrusion of the outboard’s lower unit when the tender is stored on the swim platform, and allows larger tenders to be accommodated within limited spaces.
It also improves weight distribution and trim during launching and recovery operations, and reduces drag when the tender is towed, minimising any risks often associated with an exposed lower unit and propeller.
The system can be operated either manually or through an electro-hydraulic mechanism controlled remotely via a wireless remote.
Technological and commercial growth
Under the acquisition, manufacturing and product development activities will be consolidated at Callegari’s facilities in Anagni, Italy. Around 50-60 tenders are expected to be produced annually.
The Geniuss brand – currently based in Rome, is set to retain its own identity within the Callegari group.
Following the acquisition, Claudia De Sanctis, Geniuss managing director, will remain in her role, working alongside the Callegari management team to strengthen the brand’s international presence and accelerate its technological and commercial growth.
Callegari has been manufacturing inflatable boats and tenders from its premises in Anagni, Italy, for more than 40 years.
The company recently unveiled its flagship Callegari 48 which is constructed from carbon fibre.
The vessel is 14.94-metres in length, and has a master cabin, twin cabin, dinette and bathroom with separate shower, alongside a sun deck.
