Leadership transition at Candela

After more than 11 years as CEO, Candela founder Gustav Hasselskog is to step into the role of executive chairman for the Swedish manufacturer of foiling vessels.

Chief strategy officer Sofia Graflund has in turn been appointed chief executive officer, effective June 23 2026.

The announcement of the change in leadership follows on from a successful €30 million new funding round in March – the largest to date for the company.

At the time it was stated that the company had 65 vessels on order from six countries with the first of 11 vessels due to be exported to Mumbai later in April.

Candela is entering a phase where systematic scaling becomes increasingly central.

Production is being scaled globally with mass production in place for several models.

Candela is also launching new models with its first P-12 Business ferry unveiled at the start of April 2026, based on the company’s P-12 flagship platform, providing premium electric business travel.

“I’m delighted that Sofia has accepted this role. She brings strong analytical and operational capabilities, along with a deep understanding of our technology and culture,” said Gustav Hasselskog.

Global expansion

“Her integrity and independence of thought will be key as we enter this next phase of growth.”

Sofia brings experience from fast-scaling tech companies to her new role, with previous senior positions at EQT Ventures & Growth, Heart Aerospace and Northvolt, where she led operational, strategic and legal functions.

“It’s a great honour to lead the team that has effectively invented electric hydrofoil technology, proven it in demanding public transport and brought three generations of vessels into serial production,” she said.

“I look forward to accelerating our global expansion and bringing this technology to waterways around the world.”
