Genoa-based shipyard, Tankoa Yachts, is expanding its facilities with the addition of the former Privilege area within the Port of Civitavecchia, Italy.
The expansion is part of Tankoa’s growth strategy with the shipyard intending to use the premises for metalworking, hulls, superstructures, assembly, and pre-assembly of all its yachts.
Additionally, the shipbuilder is planning to carry out refit operations at the site if a waterfront area for hauling and launching yachts becomes available.
The final assembly of yachts will continue at Tankoa’s Genoa shipyard.
“Our vision for Civitavecchia is to manufacture hulls and internalise part of the welding activities.
“Tasks that have been outsourced until now can be brought in-house, allowing us to have direct control over the quality of the work,” explained Guido Orsi, Tankoa’s marketing manager.
“In Civitavecchia, we will begin operations almost immediately on one-third of the available space in the former Privilege area.”
The new site is a three million euros investment for the shipyard which when at capacity, will produce four yachts a year, each over 40 metres in length.
Among the planned infrastructural works will be the construction of a slipway and a haulage and launching basin intended for the installation of a travel lift with a capacity of 500-600 tonnes for yachts up to 60 meters in length.
For larger yachts, Tankoa will utilise the existing 92-meter floating dry dock. The shipbuilder plans to take on additional workers over the next five years up to a total of 250-350 employees at full capacity.
