New Northern Lights Composites 30ft yacht

Delivery of the first CG30 Vento is scheduled for Autumn 2026. The 30-foot offshore racer has been developed in a collaboration between Northern Light Composites and Italy’s Cossutti-Ganz Yacht Design to combine high performance, comfort and simplified handling.

The designers have focused on ORC and IRC ratings and on achieving the right balance between construction simplicity, comprehensive standard equipment, and technical sophistication — while keeping production costs under control.

The CG30 Vento has an overall length just over nine metres and a beam of three metres,  making the yacht suitable for offshore racing with a reduced crew as well as for inshore racing with a full crew.

Specific construction features, designed to facilitate keel and rudder removal, allow for quick and straightforward transport on a trailer.

Hydrodynamic design

Total displacement is 2,950kg, including 1,350kg of ballast, with a draft of 1.96 metres.

Stability parameters and hydrodynamic design choices were evaluated in terms of its impact on rating and benchmarked against the main competitors in the reference classes.

The CG30 Vento is designed to maintain high average speeds in light and variable winds, based on an analysis of typical Mediterranean and European conditions.

The deck design is largely realised using flat panels, inspired by the aesthetics of ‘stealth’ aircraft and responding to the requirement of reducing mold costs.

The cockpit is protected by two long, shaped coamings, designed to limit jets even in demanding sea conditions.

Upwind sail area is 56.6sqm, while downwind sail area is 131sqm.

The proposed interior of the CG30 Vento

The hull and deck are built in sandwich construction, using unidirectional and biaxial glass fabrics over PVC and PET cores.

CNC-cut marine plywood bulkheads are bonded and tabbed to hull and deck with the forward bulkhead of collision-bulkhead type.

The keel has a total weight of 1,350kg, consisting of a high-strength steel fin and a lead bulb, enclosed within a fiberglass fairing laminated in a female mold.

A cassette-type system allows quick installation and removal of the fin from the hull, facilitating transport on a trailer.

Design philosophy

The interior reflects the same design philosophy adopted on deck: simplicity, robustness, and practicality.

The forepeak is left open and fitted with a sail-stowage hatch, while the WC area can be enclosed by an optional movable bulkhead.

The CG30 Vento has a 12-V electrical system with auxiliary propulsion provided by an 11hp diesel engine with saildrive.

The yacht will be built by Northern Light Composites in Monfalcone, France.
