Following its global launch at the Cannes Yachting Festival, the latest innovation from Momentum Electric Marine will make its UK debut on the Electric Outboard stand at the Southampton International Boat Show.
The lightweight 2.5kW U2 outboard is a 5hp equivalent with smart features for a wide range of applications.
“Its quick-swap integrated battery and robust construction make it the perfect electric outboard for a wide range of boats,” explained Algie Bennett, founder and owner of Electric Outboard.
“Its cable-free design, detachable battery with integrated trip computer and lightweight motor make it hugely portable – but not at the expense of performance.”
The team at Momentum have really thought about what boaters need.

He continued: “In tests with one person on board a Takacat T300LX at an average speed of 3 knots, the U2 lasted for over 9 hours and travelled almost 30 nautical miles.
“Using the full power function, it got up to 8 knots. The results from using it on an EZraft Q360 were even more impressive, running for over 18 hours and 55 nautical miles at 3 knots and getting to a top speed of 9 knots.”
The new U2 outboard is available in short and long shaft options with key features of the engine including: –
· 3hp equivalent in eco mode
· Full power mode delivers 5hp equivalent when needed
· Multi-function foldaway tiller doubles as carry handle
· Safety button to prevent going into reverse accidentally or straight to full power in forward
· High-efficiency 2.5kW drive unit runs at 3kW with optional external battery
· High-efficiency 2-blade custom propeller
· Detachable, waterproof and removable high power 1.4 kWh battery with integrated trip computer including GPS
· Quick release mounting clamp
· Total weight of just 17kg (motor 9kg and battery 8kg)
Algie concluded: “Lighter than most 1kW equivalent motors but delivering more than twice the power, the team at Momentum have really thought about what boaters need at this end of the market in designing the U2.
“It’s compact, powerful, portable and affordable. We think this is a great solution for those looking to ditch their smelly, noisy petrol outboards and switch to cleaner power for their tenders, day sailers, fishing boats or small workboats.”
The design team from Momentum will be on the Electric Outboard stand from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 September and available to answer questions about the U2 as well as the Momentum M10 15hp electric outboard and MB6 battery which will also be on display.
Electric Outboard will be on stand LO36 at SIBS which runs from September 19 to 28.
